About coshhassessments.co.uk
A UK COSHH assessment tool built to help small businesses meet their legal obligations under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, without hiring a consultant or paying £45 per report.
I'm Saad. I built coshhassessments.co.uk because I watched UK small business owners choose between two bad options for COSHH compliance: pay a consultant £300 for a site visit, or pay another online tool £45 per single report. Both are wrong for a small salon, cleaner or trade with 10-15 chemicals to assess.
What we build
A UK-specific COSHH assessment generator. Answer 6 workplace-specific questions, get a 7-page HSE-format PDF with GHS pictograms, Workplace Exposure Limits from HSE EH40/2005, control measures, PPE, storage, spillage, and emergency procedures. Free for the first assessment (watermarked). Paid bundles from £29 for 10 clean assessments.
The tool is built for UK hair salons, cleaning companies, catering businesses, garages, construction trades, and general small businesses. The chemical library is curated specifically for what UK SMEs actually use, not a generic 500-substance dump.
Our approach
- HSE-sourced data. Workplace Exposure Limits come from HSE EH40/2005 Table 1. Emergency procedures follow HSE guidance and UKHSA compendium data.
- Manufacturer SDS references. Substance hazard classification (GHS) is cross-checked against publicly available manufacturer Safety Data Sheets.
- Peer-reviewed literature. Health effects, particularly for occupational sensitisers like PPD and persulphates, reference peer-reviewed medical literature.
- Legal wording. Assessment summaries use the actual wording of the COSHH Regulations 2002, "suitable and sufficient" and "as low as reasonably practicable", rather than generic paraphrasing.
- Reviewed annually. Substance data is reviewed each time HSE publishes an EH40 revision.
Full details of how we source and verify substance data are on our methodology page.
What we're not
- Not HSE-affiliated. We reference HSE guidance and source data from HSE publications, but coshhassessments.co.uk is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or approved by the Health and Safety Executive. No online tool is HSE-approved because HSE does not certify software.
- Not a substitute for professional H&S consultancy. For high-risk workplaces, prosecutions, or bespoke assessments needing on-site inspection, hire a NEBOSH or IOSH-qualified professional.
- Not the employer. Under COSHH 2002, the employer, not this tool, remains legally responsible for the suitability and sufficiency of every assessment.
